We have sheep. Our area is crawling with coyotes. If it wasn't for our two Great Pyrenees, we would have no sheep or chickens either for that matter. Coyotes come up to the fence, but they don't jump it and come in. Livestock Guard Dogs are different from other breeds and Brenda Negri explains that clearly. This is a must read for anyone that has LGD's or is considering getting one. She explains how to run more than one dog and why. She explains how to integrate new pups into the pack, how to feed them as a group and how to work them so that they all get along.
I have read many of the articles she wrote in magazines. I was fortunate enough to belong to a forum that she posted on and her words of wisdom were treasured. To have her life's work in a book, is a book to read from cover to cover and read again and again. She teaches how toread a dog's body language and how to present yourself to the dog. She promotes a hands on approach to these dogs and being involved in their daily lives.
This book is on my nightstand, I read it at night. I just completed it and will start over in order to absorb all I can. I heartily recommend this book to anyone with Livestock Guard Dogs.
